QUESTION

ANSWER

As a first-time tax client, should I/We bring the prior year’s tax return?

Yes, by all means. This will ensure nothing gets missed that needs to flow over from the prior year.

Will I have some form of guidance or list of documents to bring to my tax appointment?

Yes! We will provide you with a checklist of what to bring to help you organize your tax documents before coming.

Will I have to wait while you do the return?

No. Your time is valuable and having you wait on the return is not always the best use of your time.

Do I have to pay up front for my return to be done?

No. You do not pay until the return is done and you are completely satisfied.

Will you take time to go over the return with me so I can fully understand it?

Yes, absolutely! You have every right to expect this from your tax accountant and we take this right seriously.

I just moved to NC from another state. Can you help with preparing both state returns?

Yes, by all means. We have the software in place to prepare multi-state returns.

Can you help me with a tax question after the tax season?

Yes. Our door is always open to help each client through out the whole year.

Do you keep up with the tax law changes during the year to help me at tax time?

Yes. I attend the annual Income Tax Course sponsored by NC State and am a member of the National Association of Tax Professionals and NC Society of Accountants which requires CPE Credits for membership.

Do you ever publish a newsletter on tax issues and concerns?

Yes. In addition to the Newsletter on this website, it is our goal to inform clients of tax changes throughout the year.

I live a good distance from your office, can I mail my tax documents to you for completion and return by mail?

Yes absolutely! We’re here to serve you in every way we can including making it easier to get the documents to us for processing and return in a timely manner.

Are you set up for Electronic Filing of Individual Tax Returns and is there an extra charge?

Yes, RTAS is an e-file provider and we recommend it to our clients for the timely deposit of Federal and State Refunds. We do not charge extra for this service but do require that IRS Form 8879 that we provide be filled out prior to e-filing.

My accountant keeps the books for my company but doesn’t offer any suggestions on how save the company money. Can you help me?

Yes. As with my tax clients, business owners need to receive constructive feed back from their accountant. We believe you have every right to this information and we want to partner with you in helping your business to grow.

Will you take time to go over my company financials with me?

Yes, we will and will also offer suggestions as well.

Is your accounting services fee by the hour or fixed?

It depends on the services being rendered but a fixed low monthly fee for recurring services is very possible. RTAS also takes care of its own applicable federal and state taxes and health/dental insurance which in turn saves the business owner money.
